*** Read me file for the Mac OsX distribution of aXis2000 ***

This is an early attempt to get the aXis2000 program running on the
Macintosh platform (again).

* Overview

For an introduction and an overview of aXis2000 itself see the help
file in the distribution axis2000.pdf or have a look to the web site
for the original distribution at http://unicorn.mcmaster.ca/aXis2000.html.

The current Mac version is based on the official aXis2000 version of
April 20, 2008. The distribution was tested on a MacBook Pro (Intel)
running Tiger (OsX 10.4.11). Only a small part of the program was
actually tested. This mainly included the reading of ALS STXM files,
the stack analysis and the PCA_GUI code, and the image and spectra
analysis. All the rest has not been tested yet. A few things do not
seem to work correctly yet. See also the file ToDo.

* Installation

You need the X-windows system installed on your computer. This is a
requirement for IDL to work. It comes with the original installation
disks of the operating system and is an optional install.

Make sure you chose the right architecture (ppc or intel). Simply
uncompress the zip file in your home directory. This should create a
directory axis2000_ppc or axis200_intel, depending on the architecture
of your Mac. Inside this directory you find the actual application
which opens simply by double clicking on the icon.

If you do not want to install the program in your home directory than
you have to change the path in the very first line of the axis.ini
file in the distribution to reflect the actual path where you unzipped
the file.

* Documentation

Please have a look to the PDF-file axis2000.pdf in the unzipped
directory.

* Contribution

As I mentioned already this is an early start to get this running. I
would appreciate if you told me about problems and successes of this
particular distribution.

Thanks,
