WHAT: An apparatus to allow scanning transmission X-ray microscopy of the electrodes, electrodeposits, and electrolyte of an active electrochemical cell has been developed and its performance demonstrated. Tracking of potential induced chemical changes at a single point can be performed at 1 msec periodicity. Mapping changes as a function of applied potential along a line or over an area can also be performed. The figure shows the apparatus and sample results for spectral changes in the C 1s region associated with electrochromism of polyaniline. For more details please see the publication.
